Mattia "Tia" (Falcone) Armstrong's Obituary
Mattia "Tia" (Falcone) Armstrong, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, April 6th. Born in Syracuse , she was the daughter of the late Innocenzia and Rosario Falcone and loving wife of Donald Armstrong, Sr. for 49 years, until his death in 1994.
She worked for the Onondaga County District Attorney’s office for 17 years.
A lifelong card shark, Tia could often be found playing a game at the kitchen table with her grandchildren - a stash of chocolate-covered peanuts and a root beer float always nearby. If she wasn’t playing cards or games with her children and grandchildren, Bridge with her buddies, or a game of "Sixty Five" with her closest friend, Annette, she was at the table playing a heated game of "Rummikub" with her dear friend, Eleanor.
Tia made a mean pot of sauce and her dozens of Christmas cookies made her house the place to be over the holidays. Her sense of humor was unmatched and she was always up for anything with her crazy family! Nothing would brighten her day more than a visit with her great-grandchildren who absolutely adored their Gigi.
Tia is survived by her children, Lynn (Steve) Romanick, Susan Webb, Donald Armstrong, Jr., and Christine (Frank) Resta; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, John Orizino, William Falcone, Sr., Joseph Falcone and Marie McCarthy, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12:00 pm in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Tia’s life at 1:00 pm in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
Tia’s children would like to extend a very special thank you to the PACE CNY staff who took such wonderful care of their mother in the last years of her life.
