Merino C. Merola 's Obituary
Merino C. Merola, Jr., of Syracuse passed away on Christmas morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate of Vocational High School and was an outstanding fullback, member of the City County Championship Team and later in life was a high school football referee. He attended Manlius Pebble Hill Military Academy before joining the US Navy, serving during WWII. He was very active with the Christian Brothers Academy Men's Club and generous to their operations. His father founded Merola Associates, Inc. in the 1940's, Merino then joined the business in 1953 and continued with heavy construction. He built water lines, sewer lines and roads throughout CNY as the family business employed many family members throughout the years. He was the founder of Universal Concrete which made precast panels for many buildings in CNY. Merino was a very generous and giving person and was very active at St. Peter's Church. Merino built their convent and daycare center. Merino was a loving man who always put his family first. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, JoAnne A. (Saya) Merola; his children, Merino C. III (Darlene Ginocchetti) Merola of Syracuse, Martin J. Merola of N. Syracuse, Joseph (Mary) Merola of Syracuse and Jeffrey (Lori) Merola of Liverpool; blessed with 7 grandchildren, Martin, Michael, Erika, Joseph, Jennifer, Megan and Merino Merola; several nieces, nephews and cousins and also his loving dogs, Lester and Mike. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 9:00 AM in the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 7 PM.
