Orlando D. "Ozzie" Azzoto's Obituary
Orlando D. “Ozzie” Azzoto, 95, of Liverpool, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Carlo and Clementina (Lombardi) Azzoto. Ozzie served with the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Radioman. He retired as a General Foreman with Crucible Steel after 42 years and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. Ozzie loved golfing, watching the NY Yankees, SU sports and frequent trips to the casino. He often volunteered his time at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church field days where he ran the food concessions. Ozzie wrote letters to the editor and had many published throughout the years. He loved spending time with his family and looked forward to family vacations in Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anne (Stager) Azzoto in 2007 after 66 years of marriage; his son, Dr. Carl Azzoto in 2014; three brothers, Anthony, William and Victor Azzoto; three sisters, Viola, Gilda and Rafaela.
Ozzie is survived by his two daughters, Gail (Lee) Henderson and Lynn Yonnick; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Leonora Sabatino; daughter-in-law, Colleen Azzoto; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Ozzie’s life at 11:30 am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
