Phillip "Sy" Sydorak, Jr.'s Obituary
M/SGT. Phillip “Sy” Sydorak Jr. (ret.) passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14th, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Phil was an amazing and devoted husband, father and “papa”, who was known for being an honest, straightforward and incredibly hard working man who believed in “doing it right the first time”.
He was predeceased by his parents, Phillip Sr., and Mary Sydorak, a number of brothers and sisters and his beloved Cockatiel, Homer. Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Constance “Connie” (Spink) Sydorak; a daughter, Heather Lawless (Michael), son, John Patchett (Nichole), and four grandchildren: Cory (Jamie), Kyle, Hailey and Hunter.
Phil was born on his family’s dairy farm in West Monroe, NY in 1940, and most recently resided in Cicero, NY. Phil retired in 1994, after serving his country for 35 years as a radar technician with the 108th A/C & W Flight Unit of the New York Air National Guard. Phil was very proud of his service to his country, which enabled him to travel the world many times over.
After retiring from the military, Phil enjoyed “puttering” around the house and helping out friends and family. Phil could be found weekly out to breakfast with his former co-workers, his lifelong friends. At 7pm most evenings, he would most likely be found on the couch, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, sneaking chocolates from the secret stash he kept hidden from Connie.
Phil was a great man, loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm, followed by a funeral service to honor Phil’s life at 6:30 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Clear Path for Veterans, 1223 Salt Springs Rd., Chittenango, NY 13037.
