Philomena "Fannie" LaGuardia's Obituary
Philomena “Fannie” (Giannuzzi) LaGuardia, 103, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at St. Camillus on Saturday, December 13, 2014 with her loving daughter-in-law by her side. She was born in Monopoli, Italy, the daughter of the late Francesca (Fiume) and John Giannuzzi and came to the United States at 11 months of age. A 45 year Breast Cancer survivor, Fannie was a decorator with Syracuse China for over 20 years. She was famous for her Sunday sauce and meatballs, loved chocolate and baking cookies for family and friends, always taking care of everyone else first. Her famous quotes were “Don’t Work Too Hard” and “If You Don’t Have Your Health You Have Nothing”.
She was predeceased by her husband, Santo LaGuardia; her son, Joseph J. LaGuardia, Sr., two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Giannuzzi; her twin sister, Rose Giannuzzi and sister, Mary Pisani.
Fannie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carol (Malys) LaGuardia; three grandchildren, Joseph (Christine) LaGuardia, Lori (Scott) Harrington and Stephen (Melissa) LaGuardia; her four great- grandchildren, Jacob, Giada, Anthony and Morgan, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Fannie’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
