Phyllis Zullo's Obituary
Phyllis Zullo, 62, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at the Francis House surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Salvatore and Nina ( Saia ) Zullo, she came to the United States in 1954 from Italy and graduated from Assumption Catholic Academy in 1967. After high school, Phyllis worked as an Executive Secretary at General Electric until she moved to the Boston area in the 1980's. She came back to the Syracuse area in 1990 to take care of her mother. Phyllis was involved with Princess House and retired from Elmcrest Children's Center in Human Resources. She is one of the longest survivors of Multiple Myeloma and fought this deadly and dreadful cancer for over 15 years. Phyllis was a very courageous and generous woman. She was involved with numerous fund raising activities to raise money for cancer in the area. The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Santo DiFino and his staff at Hematology Oncology Associates of CNY for taking care of Phyllis for the last 15 years and special thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Francis House for taking care of Phyllis for the last few months. The family would also like to express a special "Thank You" to Phyllis' numerous girlfriends who took turns staying overnight at St. Joseph's Hospital and the Francis House to comfort her during some very difficult nights. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Josephine Formica; brother, Joseph (Rosemarie) Zullo and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis' memory may be made to the Francis House.
