Dick and I roomed together sophomore and junior years in Breck Hall at Shattuck School in Minnesota. He was a good guy and, I’m sure, a good man in later life. When we had our 50th reunion at Shattuck, because Dick had served 20 years in the Army, I asked him to lead the Old Shads Drill, and he was pleased to do so.
His mother and mine were best of friends, interacting when they visited us, staying at the Faribault or another (seedy) Hotel. They kept us in #5 cans of fruit juice that we kept cold on our windowsill, and always cookies, crackers, whatever junk food we enjoyed.
Dick led Band Company our senior year, such as it was. He was serious about school and always did his best at all his activities. I am confident he was a wonderful teacher after his Army service. And, no doubt, a wonderful husband and father.
