Richard J. Meinking's Obituary
Richard J. Meinking, 85, of Liverpool, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 after a brief illness. Richard was born October 17, 1933 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Irene Meinking. He was a graduate of Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minnesota and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Richard served his country with distinction for 22 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He enjoyed a second 20-year career as a history and English teacher at two high schools in Maine, also serving as the Social Studies Department Head at one of those schools, Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, Maine. Richard was a past Master Mason, a certified EMT, a past-president of the Central New York chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, a past Deacon of the Episcopal Church and a member of Brewerton United Methodist Church. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Syracuse Orange football and basketball, and in his youth played semi-pro baseball. He loved traveling the world, reading great books, and spending time with family and friends. Richard and his wife of 60 years Judith Ann (Coder) Meinking moved to the Syracuse area in 2000, after living 23 years in Maine and New Hampshire.
In addition to his loving wife, Richard is survived by his children, Deborah (Ronald) Lombard of Brewerton, Richard W. (Anne) Meinking of Scarborough, ME, and Rebecca (Bruce Grieshaber) Meinking of Radisson; grandchildren, Richard A. (Megan) Meinking of Barrington, NH, Peter (Stephanie) Watters of Newport News, VA, and Abigail Lombard of Denver, CO; great-grandsons, Luca Meinking, Landon Meinking, and Griffin Watters.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
