I heard yesterday from a friend that she swore she saw this obit, "ya know the guy you introduced me to at the games, Santa" is what she said. As I was searching, I was hoping she was mistaken. Unfortunately, she was not. My thoughts and prayers are with Bob's entire family. I met Bob many years ago through softball (go figure). He has been umping my daughters games since she was 12 years old (she is now a senior at Liverpool High School). I remember one time she slid and her knee was bleeding, it was approximately 100 degrees, and he had ONE bottle of water, which he brought over to me to pour it over my daughters knee. She was about 13 years old. That memory has stuck in my head ever since. Bob always complimented my daughter and they would often joke on the field (for the past 5 years), and she adored him. Needless to say, over the years, Bob and I spoke a lot, since we were ALWAYS at the softball fields. This past year he would talk about his granddaughter that played softball and how he couldn't ump those games because it would be a conflict. He spoke VERY highly of her, and although I never met her, or have a clue WHO she is, she SHOULD know when Bob spoke of her, his face LIT UP!! Words cannot express my sadness when reading his obit and writing this, I am so sorry for your loss, for ALL of our loss, he was ONE OF A KIND, A GREAT man!! He is now an Angel watching over all his softball girls.
