Ronald J. "Ron" Canestrare's Obituary
Ronald J. “Ron” Canestrare, 67, of Syracuse, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Michael and Genevieve (Guinto) Canestrare. Ron lived in Ohio and Pennsylvania and was formerly Vice President of Advertising with Fay’s Drugs which brought him back to Syracuse and most recently employed as an Advertising Executive with Gaylord Brothers. He enjoyed playing Semi-Pro Football in the mid 70’s and was a 1st All East Selection. He also enjoyed playing softball, lacrosse, rugby, basketball and golf. Ron coached youth sports which included baseball, basketball, Pop Warner football and boys lacrosse. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox Fan and was interested in all types of music. Ron was a devoted family man who was loved by his wife and children and will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (Donovan) Canestrare and his son, Jeffrey Canestrare.
Ron is survived by his wife of 28 ½ years, Margaret “Peggy” (Wawro) Canestrare; four daughters, Kelly Canestrare, Jennifer Canestrare, Melissa Canestrare and Jessica (Brian) Light; his son, Blake Canestrare; six grandchildren; his brother, Michael Canestrare; his sister, Johanna (Dick) Duell, along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service in celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
