Rose (Scarcella) DeVita's Obituary
Mrs. Rose (Scarcella) DeVita, age 92, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Born in Palmi, Italy on February 5, 1922, Rose was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Carmella (Costa) Scarcella. After her family relocated to the U.S. and settled in Central New York , she was raised and educated in East Syracuse. It was there that she married Placido DeVita in 1943. Mrs. DeVita was a longtime and respected employee of the Carlyle Compressor Division of Carrier Corporation where she held a supervisory position. She retired in 1987 after many years of dedicated service. Rose enjoyed spending time with her family, hosting infamous Sunday dinner feasts that she lovingly spent all day preparing.
Rose is survived by her 3 daughters: Elena DeVita of East Syracuse, Patricia (Charles) Kinney of Chittenango, and JoAnn (Robert) Frink of Chittenango., and a son James J. DeVita of Utica. 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A sense of humor and quick wit that was hard to match, Rose enjoyed outings with her daughter Elena recollecting on the many restaurant trips they would take on the weekends to Rosalie’s or the Retreat restaurant. In recent years she looked forward to the sing along visits with her daughters JoAnn and Patricia. Rose enjoyed a special bond of friendship with her grandson Chad Porter that included daily visits to tuck her in for the night. She was preceded in death by her husband Placido in 1999, 2 sisters Mary Emeterio, and Frances Louguidice. 2 Brothers Sam Scarcella and Anthony Scarcella.
Visitation will be on held on Sunday from 1-4 P.M. at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home.(Corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse. Mrs. DeVita’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home and at 10:00 A.M. in the Church of the Assumption where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Assumption Cemetery.
