Rudolph F. Zona's Obituary
Rudolph F. Zona, 83, of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Upstate University Hospital. He was born in Syracuse graduated from St. Vincent de Paul and served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. Rudolph then attended Le Moyne College and graduated from Syracuse University where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education. He was a teacher at ESM for 35 years and served as an assistant principal as well as a basketball coach. Rudolph spent many years teaching classes at Maria Regina College. He was a generous person and contributed frequently to various charities including his high school. Rudolph had a passion for watching his children and grandchildren play sports, most of all, he had a passion for his family and politics.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rudolf and Theresa (Martino) Zona and four sisters, Carol, Doris, Josephine and Barbara.
Rudolph is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Una (Kieffer) Zona; his son, Rudy (Elizabeth) Zona of Liverpool; his daughter, Tanya (Nicholas) Zona-Woyciesjes of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren, Jacob, Ella, Alex, Arthur, and Nadia; his sister, Olga (Angelo) Fiorino of Liverpool, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Rudolph’s life at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
