Salvatore "Sam" Copani's Obituary
Salvatore “Sam” Copani, 78, of Cicero, passed away Wednesday at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Linguaglossa, Sicily and arrived in Syracuse as a young man. Sam was a member of the National Guard. He coached Le Moyne Little League for several years. Sam retired from Syracuse DPW after many years of service and was the proud owner of Casa Di Copani Restaurant for 28 years. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling to the Turning Stone Casino.
He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Vincenza (Tornabene) Copani; his sister, Pauline Behnke and brother, James Copani.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joanne (Zipeto) Copani; his three sons, John (Nora) Copani of N. Syracuse, Steven (Tracie) Copani of N. Syracuse and David Copani of Cicero; his daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Charland of Cicero; 11 grandchildren, Daniel, Jake, Mia, Joseph, Michael, and Corey Copani, Samantha, Nicole, Derek, Noah and Andrew Charland; two brothers, Louis (Rosa) Copani of Syracuse and Anthony (Kathleen) Copani of Cicero; two sisters, JoAnne (Charles) Fougnier of Canastota and Mary (Robert) Finley of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Frances Copani, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Sam’s life at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
