Salvatore J. Phillips' Obituary
Salvatore Joseph “Sal” Phillips, 90, entered eternity on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, he was born on August 11, 1929 to the late Angelo and Mary Phillips. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Sal was a trainer during the Korean conflict. He was a 1952 graduate of Le Moyne College, an assistant manager at Metropolitan Insurance Co., and the owner of Phillips’ Cobbler and Leather Shop in Shop City Plaza. An avid musician, Sal loved the big band sound, leading his own band in his younger years. He played with the Legionnaires and more recently the Rythmaires.
Besides his parents, Sal is predeceased by his 1st wife, Jean, his sister, Rosemary, and stepson, Randy.
Sal is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary; daughters, Sally Jean (Thomas) Engel, Marybeth (David) McLoughlin; granddaughter, Christina Jean (Ben) Zoba; brothers, Thomas (Beverly) Phillips and Joseph (Patricia) Phillips; along with his nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Pat, Ronnie, Mark, Paul, Jeanine, Regina, and Kathy; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Crouse Hospital for the care and compassion given to Sal during his stay in the ICU.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019, from 10:45 A.M. – 12:45 P.M. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St. Syracuse, NY 13214, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 P.M. in Holy Cross Church. Entombment will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Dewitt.
