Sam J. Piraino's Obituary
Sam J. Piraino, 93, of Onondaga Hill passed away on September 16th at Crouse Irving Hospital.
A lifetime resident of Syracuse, and third of seven children, he possessed a passion for life enjoying bowling, fishing, football and playing cards.
Predeceased by his parents Sam and Francesca Piraino, his wife Theresa (Arena) Piraino, his brother Martin Piraino, his sisters Sarah (Piraino) Bouchard and Flora (Piraino) Rockburn, and his son-in-law Frederick Zink, Jr.
Sam served his country during WWII as a Combat Engineer where he was awarded a purple heart. After returning home he, along with his parents and siblings, managed Southside Recreation Lanes where he met his wife of 65 years Theresa Arena Piraino. Later in his professional career Sam and Theresa worked and retired from Community General Hospital on Onondaga Hill.
Surviving are his son, Samuel Piraino, daughter Diane Zink, granddaughter Jennifer Zink, great grandchildren, Iris Pellegata, Quinn and Tegan Griffith. Sister Carmella Widowski (Edward) and brothers Andrew Piraino and Anthony Piraino (Christine DiBiase) as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at Most Holy Rosary, 111 Roberts Avenue, Syracuse, N.Y. at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 21, 2017, followed by Entombment in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt.
