Sandra M. (Bersani) Wood's Obituary
Sandra M. (Bersani) Wood, 87, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late, Amadeo and Christine Bersani. She graduated from convent school and Mercyhurst College. Sandy was a social worker with the Onondaga County Department of Social Services for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. Sandy enjoyed gardening, golfing and was a talented pianist. Sandy was especially known for her hospitality and humor, she was always the center of attention.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Frank, Leonard, Eugene and Armand and her former husband, Harold A. "Red" Wood, Jr. Sandy is survived by her three children, Sheila A. Ryan (Stephen Lance Cimino) of Jamesville; Terrence M. Wood of DeWitt and Lisa A. Wood (John Prishvalko) of Auburn, NY; six grandchildren, Peter A. Ryan, Daniel M. Ryan, Kelly A. Ryan, Lindsey M. Wood, Mikayla A. Wood, Courtney R. Wood and her sister, Gilda Falco of Syracuse along with several nieces and nephews.
Sandy's family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Erica, Gwen, Farida, Jackie and Bob.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
