Sean P. Gleason's Obituary
Sean Patrick Gleason departed suddenly on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Born on August 18, 1966, Sean was always a comedian to everyone around him. Ask anyone, he never failed to be the funniest guy in the room. His sense of humor was loved most by his family, especially his three daughters, who were his pride and joy.
Sean grew up on the westside of Syracuse, where he spent most of his time at local ice rinks. A hockey player at heart, Sean was skating as soon as he could walk. He was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Lightning and spent his free time volunteering as an in-game statistic tracker for the Syracuse Crunch. Sean never hung up his skates and became a standout player in Cicero’s “Old Guy Hockey League.” When not at a rink, you could find him front row at a concert, finishing a half-marathon, or at the peak of a mountain. But more often than not, you would find him with his family.
Sean never missed any of his daughters’ sporting events, award ceremonies, or an opportunity to play a backyard game. He took family meals very seriously, never allowing a single scrap to be left on a plate, warmly welcoming any and all leftovers. Sean took pride in supporting his kids throughout their education, creating masterpiece art and science projects, and being sure that Halloween costumes always won first place. Words cannot describe how proud he was of Frankie, Gracie and Torie. Sean loved being a father to three loud, strong, and brave girls.
Family adventures were never out of question. From weekends spent at Panther Lake and Alexandria Bay to annual trips to New Smyrna Beach, Vermont, and Maryland, there were always places to be and people to see. The memories of him and the endless stories to be shared will forever travel with his loved ones.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Education at St. Bonaventure University, he went on to get his master’s degree at SUNY Oswego. His career began in the Cato-Meridian Central School District as a 5th grade teacher. He pursued his C.A.S. before being promoted to principal of Cato-Meridian Middle School for 33 years. He was recognized by the ESSAA as a 2017 Administrator of the Year.
Sean is predeceased by his father-in-law, Frederick Cumoletti; his brother-in-law, Craig Cumoletti; and his grandparents, William and Dorothy Gleason.
Sean is survived by his former wife of 31 years, Paula (Gleason) Cumoletti; his daughters, Frankie, Gracie, and Torie; brother, William Gleason (Chris); mother-in-law, Joan (Dasno) Cumoletti; brothers-in-law, Steven (Kristy) and David Cumoletti; sister-in-law, Susan Cumoletti; parents, William and Marilyn; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Kara, Ross, Karlee, Henry (Lindsey), Mattea, and Marina Cumoletti, Bryan, Jack and Will Gleason.
Sean’s family would like to thank the ER teams of both St. Joseph’s Health Hospital and Upstate University Hospital for their compassionate care.
Calling hours will take place from 1 – 3 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. North Syracuse. A funeral mass in celebration of Sean’s life will be held at 12 pm on Monday, November 28, 2022 in Sacred Heart Church of Cicero.
