Sophie A. (Nalepa) Sgroi's Obituary
Sophie A. (Nalepa) Sgroi, 93, of Syracuse, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on July 16, 2019. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Nalepa. Sophie worked as a legal secretary for Menter, Rudin and Trivelpiece Law Firm.
Sophie will be truly missed by all who loved her. Her beautiful blue eyes, smile and laughter will never be forgotten. Her life revolved around her family and making sure all were safe and sound. Sophie put others first before herself and always made sure that everyone was taken care of.
Sophie enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than watching her family grow.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel S. Sgroi in 1989; her sister, Lottie Storto; grandson, Samuel M. Bougus, and son-in-law, Marty Bougus.
Sophie is survived by four children, Samuel (Melinda) Sgroi, Sandra Bougus, Steven (Barbie) Sgroi and Susan (Jeff) Petrocci; seven grandchildren, Rachel (John) Abert, Mark Sgroi, Alex and David Petrocci, Michael, Nicholas and Caroline Sgroi; two great-grandchildren, John Thomas and Eleanor Abert.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Sunnyside Care Center for all the love and care they had for our mom.
Family and friends may call on Monday, July 22, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:30 am at St. Charles-St. Ann’s Church, 501 S. Orchard Rd., Syracuse, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Sophie’s life at 11:00 am at St. Charles-St. Ann’s Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
