The last time we talked we kidded about our ages and getting old. I feel so bad that he is gone and that he lost his battle with diabetes. May you rest in peace and walk the streets of gold. You are now without pain Steve.
Steve was a part of my extended family for years, I always loved talking to him, he was never at a loss for words! My prayers go out to Rachel and Steve, his son and daughter. I will always keep Steve close to my heart where he has always been
Steve will be sorely missed. Not only was he a cousin, but a close friend growing up.....what great times we had in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and up to just very recently.......and as teens, driving around in his GTO.......going out on Friday and Saturday nights........his joining me and my friends from St. Bonaventure University (we made him an honorary SBU student!) when we went to Florida for Spring Break in '68 (or was it '69)...He was with me the night I met my future wife Marie, and he remained friends of ours all these last 43 years.....I am so glad I got to spend some time with him the past 2 years or so.......ever since his leg amputation, I would visit him on a Sunday afternoon, and just sit and talk and reminisce for an hour or two. He was so proud of his association with the Mattydale Fire Department too, always speaking of the many friends he had there. I had so many good times with Steve growing up......and as adults, too. It's hard to believe he's gone. To Chrissy, Rachel, Stephen Jr., and Carter (whose pictures he was always so eager to show me!), our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, and please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

A piece of me has been taken with you. You were such a great man and loved by so many. I will be forever grateful for everything you showed me and did for me. I am half the women I am today because of you. Your grandson thought the world of you and you felt the same. I'm glad you were able to have the time you had with him. Steve will truly be missed.He was a member of the "Sheriff's gang of Tony, Ron. Frank and Joe and we hung around together for many years drinking a lot of coffee together. Even through these last few years of illness, Steve was always upbeat and positive and handled everything that had to be dealt with. He will be truly missed.
Stephen was also survived by a daughter Rachel Mento, a son Stephen Mento Jr , and grandson Carter Mento whom he loved very much
