Stephen M. Wolniak, Sr.'s Obituary
Stephen M. Wolniak, Sr., 89, of Syracuse, passed away Monday after a brief day stay at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Matthew and Sophie (Skerpon) Wolniak. Stephen served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked as a finishing carpenter on many homes in the Syracuse area in the 1950s and 60s. Stephen then was employed with the United States Postal Service and worked his way up through the ranks, becoming a supervisor, retiring after 20 years of service.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Connie (Rimando) Wolniak; six children Stephen (Barbara) Wolniak of Maryland; Michael Wolniak of Syracuse; Kevin (Karla) Wolniak of Pittsburgh; Elaine (James) Jonasse of Livonia, NY; Kathleen Wolniak (Brian) of Syracuse and Maureen Wolniak of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew and Michelle Wolniak; Nicholas and Rachel Jonasse along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME followed by a funeral mass in celebrations of Stephen's life at Noon in Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
