Vincent J. "Jimmy" Leo's Obituary
Vincent J. “Jimmy” Leo, 79, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by his loving family. Vincent was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Dominick and Maria (Barbuto) Leo. He worked for several years at Gaylord Brothers prior to working for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after more than 30 years. Vincent was an avid boxing fan. He was once a contributing writer for Ring Magazine, and was the time keeper for bouts at the Onondaga County War Memorial. He had an interest in antiques and collectibles, and was a self-taught guitar and saxophone player. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Lucy’s Church. He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony “Tony”, Joseph “Joe”, Salvatore “Sam”, Theodore “Tom”, Frank and Peter Leo.
Vincent is survived by his brother, Pasquale “Patsy” (Dorothy) Leo; his sister, MaryAnn (Anthony “Nini”) Caruso; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Vincent’s life at 9:00 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vincent’s memory may be made to the St. Lucy’s Food Pantry, 432 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
