William Patrick Cloonan's Obituary
William “Billy” Patrick Cloonan, 43, of Syracuse, passed away on March 18, 2021. William was born in Syracuse to the son of William J. Cloonan and Philomena (D’Imperio) Goodeve.
William was excellent at sports, he excelled in football at Bishop Grimes high school, before playing at Cayuga Community College. William continued his education and received his bachelor’s degree at SUNY Oswego and master’s degree at Lemoyne College. Football being his passion, William coached high school football in many districts for over 20 years. Most recently at West Hill High School. William was employed with Syracuse City School District as a special education teacher for 20 years.
William was immensely proud of his Irish heritage. Being able to visit Ireland was a great accomplishment to him. Being the proud Irishman that he was, watching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football games brought him great joy.
William loved spending time with his family and friends. Some of his favorite moments were watching his nieces and nephews play sports. As a teacher and coach, he had a great impact on so many student athletes.
William is predeceased by his father William Joseph Cloonan and his maternal grandparents, Virginia and Anthony D’Imperio.
William is survived by his mother, Philomena (D’Imperio) Goodeve; sister, Kelly (Jeff) Imbesi; brother, Kevin (Amy) Cloonan; Nieces and Nephews, Alyssa, Kelsey, Haley, Kevin, Jenna, Alanna, James; and his beloved dog Lucky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart of Cicero Church, 8229 Brewerton Rd, Cicero, NY 13039. Private burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
