William J. Quinn's Obituary
William J. Quinn, 83, of Liverpool passed away unexpectantly Friday at his home. He attended Syracuse Public Schools, graduated from North High School and attended Syracuse University. An on-air personality in the 1950’s he was a program manager and did local record hops at the Armory and Three Rivers Inn where he was known as “Wild Bill Quinn”.
Bill worked with WFBL, WNDR, and WTLB in Utica, NY, as an on-air program manager in the 1960’s. He was a producer with WPRO in Providence R.I. in the 60’s, WBAL Baltimore and Maryland Public Radio in the 1970’s and 80’s. He was managing director of WINX in Washington D.C. in the 1980’s. His specialties included the Top 40’s, Classic Pop, Oldies, Big Band, Nostalgia, Classical Music, Pure Golden Format and Broadway Stage. An adjunct professor at Syracuse University and Baltimore Community College, he also served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
“Entertainment Publication” described Bill as “Class of the Airwaves” with the unusual achievement of being decent, kind and sincere in the battlefield of commercial broadcasting. He was a regular guy who always brings respectability and professionalism to the entertainment media.
“All the music of your life will accompany him to heaven, with Glenn Miller leading the band”.
Bill was pre-deceased by his parents: John and Arlene (Cipriano) Quinn, his wife Frances Quinn and his devoted pets Little Richard and Shayna.
Surviving are his sister Patricia (Nicholas J.) Quinn Pirro, his nephew Nicholas (Doreen) Pirro III, his niece Jessica Pirro and her husband David Mann, 2 step-daughters and step grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Maryland.
